From Studio to Sand: The Creative Journey Behind Our Artist Towels

At Lalita’s Art Shop, we’ve always believed in weaving art into everyday life—but when it comes to our microfiber towels, the creative process is a whole different adventure.

Unlike our outdoor accessories, where the artwork needs to remain subtle, abstract and versatile, our towels are a celebration of bold creativity. Think vibrant, expressive, figurative, and full of life. For us, towels became the perfect canvas to showcase breathtaking works of art at a large scale—and let them travel the world with you.

 1. The Art Direction: Bolder, Brighter, Freer

When designing a hat or tube, we keep things minimal—soft colors, abstract patterns, neutral tones. But towels? That’s where we let loose!

We collaborate with incredibly talented artists—many of whom normally create more figurative or detailed work, which wouldn’t fit on a wearable piece like a beanie. With towels, it’s a different story. They allow us to finally bring these artists’ full vision to life.

We look for summer-themed, eye-catching images that make a statement. Whether it’s a character-packed scene or an explosion of color, we embrace the bold.

 2. Two Sides, One Story

Every Lalita towel features a full art piece on one side and a coordinated graphic pattern on the other, inspired by the original image. This mix of fine art and design adds texture, depth, and beauty.

We either co-create the back pattern with the artist or develop it in-house with our design team.

3. Functionality with a Purpose

We didn’t want to just print beautiful images—we wanted the towels to perform.

Each towel also comes with a reusable waterproof bag, perfect for storing the towel, carrying your essentials to the beach, or holding wet clothes after a swim. Like everything we make, multi-functionality meets sustainability.

4. Two Paths to Creation

We work with artists in two different ways:

1. Option A: The artist sends us an existing artwork they love. We adapt it for the towel format and create the back pattern to match.

2. Option B: We develop a completely new design together, based on trend research and summer inspirations.

Our founder Elise often sits down with the artists, guiding them based on their artistic style and what might translate best onto a towel.

5. Samples, Colors & Testing

Once the art is finalized, we:

1. Place the designs in towel templates

2. Choose stitching and elastic colors

3. Create digital mockups

4. Send everything to print for sample testing

We carefully review each test towel before approving it for production.

 6. Launch Time!

After final samples are approved, it’s go-time:

1. We build our sales catalog

2. Organize vibrant photoshoots

3. Send towels to influencers

4. Launch pre-orders with retailers

A few months later, you’ll find our artist-designed towels in your local shop or on our website, ready to soak up your next adventure.
